Just as Masciarelli made a name for Abruzzo’s Montepulciano grape, they also elevated the quality and reputation of the Trebbiano grape. The particular Trebbiano in Abruzzo is a relative of the grape planted in many other areas of Italy, but in the climate and soils of Abruzzo when farmed for quality it produces a wine with fantastically expressive fruit and a gorgeous balance of round concentration and mineral freshness.

The Cabernet is defined by its cherry and spice aromatics and with an emphasis on red fruit flavors. The structure is elegant with highly integrated tannins. Aging in French oak gives the wine a decided elegance with finesse on the long finish.
Le Fornaci hails from Lugana, a trendy, growing appellation on the southern shores of Lake Garda. Tommasi has long owned an estate in the village of San Martino della Battaglia, where they produce elegant white wines made from the indigenous and largely unknown Turbiana grape. In the unique clay-rich soils and moderate climate of Lugana, the variety yields full-flavored wines with citrusy flavors and high acidity, capable of aging for more than a decade.

Brut Majeur is the epitome of a non-vintage brut from a great, historic House and is the finest ambassador for the House’s freshness and elegance. It has the highest proportion of Chardonnay of all the traditional Champagne houses.

Amarone Riserva “Ca ‘Florian” is made with selected grapes from one of the oldest vineyards owned by the Tommasi family, with vines averaging 30 years. This “Cru” or “Climat,“ as one would say in Burgundy, is characterized by its “simplicity and elegance,” with notes of cherry and typical black cherries of the valley of Marano, but also the sweet spices and greater structure and elegance common to the Valley of Negrar, which give it the ability to age for the long term.
La Social is a new and eminently approachable release from Telmo Rodriguez, made with grapes from trusted suppliers who follow Telmo’s vine growing philosophy, as well as a small portion of estate grapes. Their aim with La Social is to produce a completely pure and authentic expression of Rioja – a delicious, unpretentious, everyday wine to enjoy in a social setting. The result is an extremely fresh and lively wine, with juicy plum fruit and traces of dark chocolate and violet.
This Valpolicella comes from the historical Tommasi family vineyard of the same name. Perfectly situated on one of the region’s most famous hills, Monte Masua, it produces what may be the best grapes for the production of Valpolicella Classico Superiore. Careful cultivation of the vineyard, a rigorous selection of grapes and meticulous vinification all contribute to the production of this fresh, elegant Valpolicella.
A blend of 60% Corviña, 25% Rondinella and 15% Molinara, it sees 15 months of aging in large Slavonian oak casks of 65 hl. The aromas recall dried spices, leather and cherry and the flavors are intense, with spicy, sweet cherry flavors. Beautifully balanced and very expressive, Rafael pairs wonderfully with a platter of cured meats and cheeses.

Dehesa Gago is 100% Tinto de Toro (the local clone of Tempranillo). The intensity of this old vine fruit comes through even in this wine, vinified without oak, a pure expression.
The Telmo Rodriguez wines in Toro are named after a Spanish breed of bull that is both elegant and powerful. That epitomizes the challenge in the region, to work in areas that are cooler, and with vines that are trained and adapted to the heat, so that a freshness plays with the fruit concentratin.
The 19th century lower-case “g” typeface that appears on all the Toro wines is transformed, and modernized, by a bull horn.
Affectionately known as “OVR,” Marietta’s Old Vine Red is a proprietary red wine made to replicate the field blends of the old vineyards in Sonoma and Mendocino counties. A groundbreaking combination of varietals and multiple vintages first produced in 1982, this wine has blazed the path for red blends for decades. With an historic underground following, it is one of the longest lasting and best known red blends produced today. Predominantly comprised of fresh, young Zinfandel, OVR gets its backbone from Petite Sirah with about three years of age in neutral barrel, and its savory component from Syrah with about two years of age in neutral barrel. Occasionally, other varieties like Barbera, Carignan, or Grenache will be blended in to complement the other elements. The goal is always to create an enjoyable table wine made with integrity that combines pure fruit, a supple mouth feel and a rich, solid structure.
Moonracer is from Realm’s estate vineyard on Wappo Hill in the Stags Leap District AVA. Winemaker Benoit Touquette has worked with the vineyard for years, and the site, with its multiple blocks, elevations, facings, and diverse soils, has character in spades. It is said this elevated site was important to the Wappo Native Americans as it provided the tribe with a central lookout from which to identify intruders. Jack London, who wrote about the curious inter-tribal races that took place during full moons, noted that the Wappos often won. Thus Moonracer, an oblique reference to the earliest inhabitants of the place Realm calls home. The wine is composed each year of the site’s finest lots, creating a Cabernet Sauvignon that is strong and powerful yet also elegant, with refined tannins and plenty of depth.
With vineyards spanning from Calistoga to Coombsville, from the Mayacamas Mountains to the Vaca Range, The Bard is the most complex and diverse blend Realm produces. The Bard is a dense, weighty, and concentrated wine that year in and year out showcases the most dynamic expression of Napa Valley. This cabernet sauvignon-based proprietary blend celebrates the art and precision required of meticulous blending, combining grapes from impeccable growing sites with the judicious oversight of the human hand and palate.
In the same way that Special Cuvée stands apart from non-vintage Champagnes, Bollinger Rosé is an exception for Rosé Champagnes. What is more, it is a relative secret, as Bollinger did not release a non-vintage Rosé until 2008 and the quantity produced is quite limited. The wine begins as Special Cuvée and then Bollinger’s specialty as the Pinot Noir producer in Champagne takes center stage, as the red fruits that join the conversation dance vibrantly, the finish has just a hint of perfectly repeat tannin, and the deep complexity of the wine shines through transparently.
Bollinger is the producer most associated with a single grape variety in Champagne, namely Pinot Noir. This more difficult grape to grow makes up a minimum of 60% of all of Bollinger’s Champagne. The harmony of Pinot Noir’s richness and elegance plays a large part in the Rosé’s distinct profile, the ripe red berries and powerful impact a clear signature. Then there is the other association that Bollinger is so well known for: winemaking in barrel. As virtually every Champagne producer in the latter half of the 20th century moved to fermenting in large lots in stainless steel tanks, Bollinger persisted to oversee fermentation barrel by barrel for all vintage Champagnes and a remarkable 30% of the Rosé. Why? Because the development of flavors becomes so much more complex, and the texture rounder and silkier. A third Bollinger specialty is the aging of Champagnes. Most Champagnes on the market are primarily made up of the most recently harvested vintage before requirements to age in bottle. Bollinger is primarily made up of Champagnes that are not from the most recent vintage, and in the end a newly released bottle of Bollinger is around 7-8 years old. A fourth – and utterly distinct – practice at Bollinger is the use of Reserve Magnums. The best vineyards will be aged under cork in magnum for up to 15 years, and hand disgorged into the final blend to bring the aromas and flavors only a great aged Champagne can display, notes such as truffles, ginger and walnuts.
So you have it all: the freshness that Champagne brings naturally, the secondary notes as the fruit character becomes riper and savory and spicy notes enter, and the third level, when fruit becomes almost crystallized, texture becomes like velvet, and the glass in front of you brings meaning to you and with those you have chosen to share. Then, because of the quality, density and power of Bollinger’s still red Pinot, only 5-6% of red wine is added to make the Rosé, less than half (or even a third) what you find in typical Rosé Champagnes. We like to say: “Fresh as a Rosé, balanced as a Bollinger.”
Fidelio is Realm’s sole white wine, a 100% Sauvignon Blanc sourced from Farella Vineyard and grower vineyards. Grapes for Fidelio are picked at different stages of maturity to yield a spectrum of fruit flavors and textures, yielding a wine that is neither oaky nor in the green/grassy camp. Well-balanced and fresh tasting, this is Realm’s version of a fine white Bordeaux: expansive on the palate, wonderfully complex, beautifully structured and concentrated.
Fidelio is the name of the only opera that Ludwig van Beethoven ever composed. It was also the password needed to gain access to a secret ceremony in the 1999 film Eyes Wide Shut. Realm commissioned artist Sylvia Ji to create the art for this label, which draws on Mexican folk art for inspiration. Ji chose a light color palette to reflect the white wine; the mask is her reference to Eyes Wide Shut.
Bòggina is a Sangiovese cru and a testament to the winemaking foresight of Petrolo’s founder, Gastone Bazzocchi, who planted the vineyard in 1952 and saw the great quality potential of the vineyard early on. Over the years, the vineyard has been replanted little by little with a massale selection to preserve the diversity of the original clones. Bòggina showcases the great expression of a 100% Sangiovese that Petrolo’s unique terroir and microclimate are capable of producing.
